About

Just another college student.

My full name is Travis Craig Johnson. I study Applied and Computational Mathematical Sciences at the University of Washington, specializing in discrete math and algorithms. Basically this means I forgo some of what a computer science degree gives in favor learning a whole lot more math. So, I study combinatorics, optimization and algorithms. I am also picking up a minor in Applied Mathematics(sortof… I have about 2 applied math minors creditwise, but they don’t actually let ACMS majors declare that, so it’s just in spirit, not on paper), which involves a lot of creating, modeling with, and solving ordinary and partial differential equations, along with some other pure math stuff that fits physical systems(ie, the world we live in.) Anyways, it’s pretty cool stuff, and if you get me going, I’m sure that I’ll talk at you at some length about any of the above.

I work at the Applied Physics Lab. At the moment, it’s a lot of server administration work, which is cool and fun. Hopefully I can sorof segue into more programming- or mathematics- type stuff like I’ve been training for.

I’m now officially a word traveler, having spent a month of my summer in Brazil studying Applied Mathematical Modeling, Climate, and Ocean-Atmosphere Interactions.
